Train Garden
In 1986, John Hippley purchased a patch of land from Ed and Juanita Curl where several of the gardens are currently located. The oldest garden at The Gardens at Hippley Village is the Train Garden, named in memory of Ed Curl, who passed away December of 1994.
The garden features a six-foot water wheel constructed of cedar wood that is powered by an electric pump. The pump pushes 3900 gallons of water over the wheel each hour. The Grist Mill, named in memory of Betty Kyser, a neighbor who at one time owned land adjacent to the garden, serves as the home to the miniature G scale train when it isn’t rolling over the train tracks in the garden.
The Garden is home to a small town, complete with houses, bridges, tunnels, three waterfalls, a lazy river, several types of Sedums, 58 Alberta Spruce trees, 3 dwarf Elm trees, a dwarf weeping redbud, and several other miniature plants.
