The “Winnie” Cross Koi Pond
Construction on the James “Winnie” Cross Koi Pond began on December 27, 2022. It was named in honor of the late “Winnie” Cross who was a lifelong resident of Columbiana. He lived on Stanton Ave, directly to the south of the koi pond. When the creator of the gardens first moved to Columbiana and constructed the basketball court, Mr. Cross enjoyed sitting on his lawn chair in his backyard watching pickup games there. Today that backyard s a waterfall flowing into the koi pond.
The bridges that carry pedestrians over the pond are named after Jack and Dinah Sitler, lifelong Columbiana residents. The bridge serves as a focal point in the Koi Pond Garden and its turret serves as a home to several gnomes.
A small seating area in the garden with brick sculptures that were skillfully crafted by the talented Brad Spencer of North Carolina depicts Larry and Norma Jean Hippley, parents of the Gardens creator.
